THE CHALLENGE
3M wanted to participate in Milan Design Week not with a simple product display but with a meaningful and engaging experience. The brand’s core values—innovation, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement—must be conveyed to designers and the public. 3M aimed to create a direct involvement experience to capture the “Wonder” effect that has always inspired the company.
THE EXPERIENCE
Wonder Beyond Imagination was the immersive installation created by 3M at the Triennale di Milano during Fuorisalone 2018. The installation brought the concept of wonder to life through an interactive wall, where visitors could play and engage. Kinect technology allowed users to see their silhouettes appear on the wall/screen, move, dance, and interact with words that fell like rain. These words were tweets and contributions from visitors, expressing what the concept of “Wonder” meant to them.
To enhance the experience, the installation was accompanied by the scent of rain and sounds, creating a multisensory atmosphere. Additionally, an emotional video explaining the history and vision of 3M was displayed, ensuring the visitors were left with a lasting memory of their “wonder” experience with the brand.
